Astrakhan regional ecology biologocal center (ARBEC)
Astrakhan regional ecology biological center is state organization of extra education of children. About 2500 pupils under 18 years old study in it, 56 teachers run lessons.
Sections:
- Scientific;
- Ecology and regiology;
- Applied biology;
- Natural sciences;
- Cultural- Sport mounted club "Konkur";
- Dogs club "Tref";
 Scientific section is one of the most important ones, it develops interest of children to natural subjects , implants skills of researching work, team work, encourages professional orientation of pupils. Biology-ecological community "Naturalist" heads this section, it was organized at 1987 in intermediate school N39. It was voluntary unit of pupils wished to improve their knowledge in biology, to expend mental outlook. Now 250 children and teens study in "Naturalist", and the quantity increases by every year.
The community has 11 sections:
Plant ecology, Water ecology, Microbiology,
Animals ecology, school of marine ecologists, humanitarian,
Human ecology, ecology monitoring, dogs training,
Genetics and plant physiology, biojournalism.
Tasks of scientific sections:
- Formation of general knowledge about ecology as science, about its up-to-date estate and perspectives of development, branches of ecology;
- Acquaintance with features of native region's nature, main kinds of animals and plants, general ecosystems;
- Studying of ecological methods of nature explorations, researching work;
- Implanting skills of using equipments, team work during practical and lab work.
In "Naturalist" children do not only scientific activities, study to work with equipment, make own ecological projects but take skills of team work. Since 1993 there are pupils scientific expeditions of naturalists every summer - "School of field ecology".  Places of researching are different: shore of Volga river, shore of Baskunchak lake with unique flora, Bogdo mountain, Bear's hills. In "School of field ecology" pupils take skills of practical activities of studying biological vary of native region, mapmaking, soiling, geology, botanic, zoology, water ecology. There is ecological monitoring of researching area. But nature is not only object of researching but place of rest. Unforgettable days in the camp remain.
"Naturalist" actively participates in different competitions and conferences of the region and Russia, where children take good places and prizes.
On November 2003 two projects of "Naturalist" members were sent at Russian competition of young researchers of environment:
Smirnova Yulia, pupil of Intermediate School N39, section "Genetics and plant physiology", the project - "Estimation of water condition in Pryamaya Bolda river by cytogenesis method" Instructor: Kamneva O.A.
Lukoshkina Natalia, Kuushlueva Inna, pupils of Intermediate School N39, section "Water ecology" the project - Influence of oil's pollution upon developing of fresh-water periphiton society. Instructor: Afanasyev Vladimir.
They were called for defense of their scientific projects at Russian conference of young researchers of environment (Moscow) on March.
"Naturalist" has constant and close links with city ecology department (Astrakhan), Children's ecological center (Moscow), Children's ecological movement "Green planet" (Moscow), Astrakhan state biosphere vivarium, Association ECOS (Ecological Society) (Moscow), Moscow's state Zoo and others.
Work of sections of the organization is in laboratories of Astrakhan state technical university, Astrakhan state medical academy, Caspian scientific researching institute of fish economy, House of nature, on base of regional ecology biological center and in Intermediate School N39. Nine schools and lyceums co-operate with "Naturalist".
 The scientific community lives and develops.
Its plans:
- searching of new scientific directions, open new sections which would satisfy up-date desires of children, open their creative potential, develop individual skills of everyone;
- involving more pupils from different schools of the city and region having interest to science into sections of the scientific community
- to get : status of graduated pupil of "Naturalist" will help such pupils to enter to universities and colleges on natural specialties (ecology, biology and so on)
- to organize in "Naturalist" distanced ecological education for pupils of last years studying
- co-operating with ecological organizations of other countries, participation in international scientific conferences, competitions with aims of experience exchange and perception of culture and mood of life of other countries.
